Amsterdam 1 Data Center Opens its Doors to a New e-shelter Era

The Amsterdam 1 Data Center (AMS 1) is now open for business. The official opening event for Amsterdam 1 was held on April 11th and more than 250 guests including customers, business leaders, government representatives and employees all came together to celebrate. Amsterdam 1 is the first data center e-shelter has built outside of its historical operating markets of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and the Netherlands was a natural first choice. The country, and Amsterdam in particular, has risen to become one of the most important colocation hubs in the world. With the city’s leading internet exchange and transatlantic fiber optic connections, Amsterdam’s technical infrastructure serves as both a provider and contributor to today’s digital economy.

Honored guests including Tetsuya Shoji, President and CEO of NTT Communications and Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO and Founder of e-shelter officially open Amsterdam 1 Data Center

Amsterdam 1 features the same best in class physical and technical infrastructure for which e-shelter is already well known. We attach great importance to the use of the latest technologies and methods for the responsible and sustainable use of energy resources. This campus will also join our fast-growing global network of NTT Innovation Labs. The Innovation Lab, which was created by e-shelter and is now being rolled out across the NTT data center network, has been extremely successful. The Innovation Lab allows our customers and partners to test drive and validate cutting-edge technology solutions and IT deployments in a live data center environment. Amsterdam will join a growing list of Innovation Labs including Frankfurt, Berlin, Zurich, Vienna, Tokyo, with upcoming locations to include London, Bangkok and Johannesburg.

e-shelter’s Amsterdam 1 Data Center

Outside of Amsterdam, e-shelter continues to strengthen its presence in Europe. We have data center developments underway in Frankfurt, London and Madrid. And of course, work will continue at Amsterdam 1 as the next phases of construction will see the campus grow to 16,000 sqm of total data center space and almost 40 MW of IT load. This is an exciting time for e-shelter as transformative technologies continue to generate demand and support our business growth for the foreseeable future. Even though e-shelter has been operating for nearly 20 years, we are at the beginning of a new era. e-shelter is now on a true international growth path and this could not have happened without Amsterdam as the foundational step.
