Data Center Achievements in EMEA

2019 has been a year of great achievements for NTT Global Data Centers EMEA. To start with, two new data center campuses were inaugurated. On April 11, Amsterdam 1 was launched, the first NTT data center facility in the Netherlands. The data center will deliver up to 40 MW of IT load across 16,000 sqm of colocation space when fully completed. Later in the fall, the King of the Netherlands visited Amsterdam 1 for discussions on the digitization of the country. The meeting was initiated by the Dutch Data Center Association. Before taking part in the three roundtable discussions, the King took the opportunity to have a tour around the state-of-the-art data center campus. The day was a great success and we were honoured to have the King visit the Amsterdam facility.

The Amsterdam opening in April was soon followed by the opening of Frankfurt 4, which took place on June 27. The data center campus is located in Hattersheim, 15 km west of the city center. It will feature 24,000 sqm of IT space and 80 MW of IT load across five data center buildings.

Along with data center launches, a lot of progress has been made on the London 1 development. The shell and core work has just been completed, and the interior fit-out is now underway. The data center campus is located in Dagenham, 20 km east of London city center and 15 km from the Docklands. We recently posted a more thorough update on LON1 that can be read here.

A newly announced development in April 2019 was the Berlin 2 facility. We acquired the site from BMDF Gewerbepark Berlin-Mariendorf GmbH & Co. KG, enabling the development of a 60,000 sqm data center campus with 90 MVA of data center capacity. The first phase is scheduled to be ready in Q4 2020. Marienpark Berlin, the location of the acquired land, is located just south of the city center and is 14 km from the existing Berlin 1 Data Center.

A very significant moment in 2019 was the transition from the e-shelter brand to NTT Global Data Centers EMEA. On October 1 the brand change was announced and welcomed, and the e-shelter brand continues to transition into the larger Global Data Centers division of NTT Ltd. This division consolidates NTT’s existing data center operations in the Americas, APAC, EMEA and India. NTT Ltd. has a combined revenue of 11 billion USD, with 28 companies coming together, and a footprint across 5 continents and 57 countries. We are thrilled to operate as a global data center platform and to be a part of the new NTT Ltd. entity.

2020 is set to be a year just as exciting. The opening of London 1 is due in April and more opportunities for expansion are on the horizon. We are looking forward to the great things we will achieve in the future as NTT Global Data Centers. As for right now, we wish all our customers, partners, and supporters a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
