Future Mobility in the Munich Innovation Lab

The automotive industry is in a state of exciting transition as autonomous and electric vehicle developments seem to grab news headlines every day. Even automotive manufacturers admit that there is even more going on behind the scenes than just self-driving cars and environmentally-friendly engines. In late 2016, BMW’s former head of Sales and Marketing, Ian Robertson, said that the company was “one of the world’s, if not the most successful automotive company and we are rapidly becoming a technology company.” Fast forward one and a half years and even more technology changes have occurred within the automotive industry.

Traditional automotive manufacturers, parts suppliers and technology companies are embracing disruption within the industry and working together. More personalized, on-demand services, ride sharing companies, autonomous driving vehicles, even flying and drone transportation testing will all deliver more convenience to the end-user and create new revenue streams and business models within the industry. As real-time data processing and decision-making are absolutely necessary in the future of mobility as lives are at stake, mobility applications need to be tested, validated, and regulated to the highest levels available for safety and accuracy.

On the testing and validation front, the Innovation Lab in Munich is moving forward with the development of its digital hub - Future Mobility - to help companies advance faster on mobility-based solutions. The Innovation Lab utilizes real-time, real-world testing environments that deliver a compelling Try Before You Buy platform with very little customer risk or capital outlay – right from within a secure and connected data center. This data center component is imperative as it can support future mobility applications that require:
