e-shelter opens first innovation lab for customers and partners in Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt, April 26th 2017 – e-shelter, the leading data center operator in Europe and an NTT Communications group company, today announced the opening of its inaugural innovation lab in Frankfurt. e-shelter is “home to the cloud”. Beyond space, power, and security, e-shelter offers new ways for technology providers, business partners, and end users to innovate with cloud technology in a vibrant community. The e-shelter innovation lab provides the setting for customers to test and validate distributed cloud architectures in a real-world production environment faster, with greater flexibility, and with lower up-front investment. A rapidly growing network of cloud, technology and integration partners is bringing private and hybrid cloud scenarios to life in the innovation lab, where customers and partners are able to test proven “use cases” on preinstalled IT platforms. Customers also have the ability to design “proof of concepts” that specifically target their business goals, which can then be quickly migrated to the production environment. The e-shelter innovation lab reduces the initial investment in complex new scenarios, enables IT Departments to measure the impact on IT service delivery, and helps accelerate time to market deployment.

Exploring and validating digital transformation initiatives

Digitization offers companies the ability to remain agile and flexible in their approach while driving business and process innovation. Yet despite pressure to innovate, companies struggle due to high barriers to investment, legacy IT strategies, or caution when it comes to Cloud adoption. The e-shelter innovation lab is addressing these barriers to innovation by helping companies to develop efficient cloud strategies, optimize their internal IT landscape, and embrace new business models to remain competitive. The e-shelter innovation lab infrastructure enables companies to find and develop the optimal strategies to meet their business goals. e-shelter is also enabling its partners to engage new customers and open a new channel to differentiate their offerings with customized, innovative trials in a secure, stable environment.

“It is e-shelter’s goal to go beyond providing our customers with the largest data center in Europe. We also need to provide services that enable our customers to develop new business models and generate greater revenue”, said Toan Nguyen, Director Business Development & Cloud Platform at e-shelter, describing the advantages of the e-shelter innovation lab. “We are also inviting new customers to leverage our rich ecosystem and secure infrastructure to develop new ideas and solve their business challenges. We connect companies and technologies, and the e-shelter innovation lab distinguishes itself through a vibrant innovation community that fosters creative and innovative collaboration.”

Rich ecosystem and innovative solution portfolio

More than 30 partners have already implemented test environments in the e- shelter innovation lab. Mirantis OpenStack and Canonical were two of the first companies to demonstrate their cloud offerings, and industry-leading service providers have since joined. Intel and Google provide tools for efficient hybrid cloud container orchestration, and Pivotal and Nutanix are providing a data-driven software deployment platform based on Pivotal. Racks and solutions from state- of-the-art providers such as Rittal and Vertiv are installed and available for use.

"Intel is excited about the opportunities that the new e-shelter innovation lab creates for customers by accelerating hybrid cloud adoption and providing an environment to test and validate use cases. The hybrid cloud solutions are supported by the next generation Intel® Xeon® processor, codenamed Skylake, available and optimized for Google Cloud Platform. Inteland Google also support customers using Kubernetes as an open source container orchestration solution that provides customers with choice and agility." states Mark Hocking, VP & Global Director for Team Alphabet at Intel Corporation.

“We are very happy to work jointly with e-shelter on showcasing some great and innovative technologies. Kubernetes is a key enabler for true hybrid- and/or multi-cloud architectures, that will make it easy for customers to quickly move from testing ideas over to running production workloads at e-shelter’s facilities connected to Google’s Cloud.” Michael Korbacher, Director Google Cloud, DACH

“The e-shelter innovation lab is a true representation of the ability for customers to be able to leverage and utilize high-end equipment and data center infrastructure for their individual and unique business cases. Rittal is proud to be able to facilitate and provide the e-shelter innovation lab with high quality and flexible data center infrastructure that ensures that both partners and customers are able to experience, measure and adapt their cloud strategies and IT business models at the highest and most flexible levels.” states Andrew Grace, Head of Channel Management at Rittal.

“We are very happy to present our products in the e-shelter innovation lab. This is confirmation for us that the continuous development of our products is well-perceived in the market. The increasing demands on efficiency and functionality drive us to deliver high-quality products, make us an ideal partner for e-shelter, and the innovation lab an ideal location to present our portfolio," commented Reinhard Purzer, Managing Director of DACH, Vertiv GmbH, the cooperation with e-shelter.
