e-shelter in Vienna is the first data center in Europe to receive the new DIN EN 50600 certification

Vienna, 18.02.2016 – e-shelter, leading data center operator in Europe and an NTT Communications group company, announced today that its data center in Vienna obtained the DIN EN 50600 certification as the first case in Europe. As certified by an independent testing and certification centre, the Vienna site fulfills all the requirements of the internationally recognised DIN standard with its equipment and infrastructure for data centers, and achieved the highest of four levels of availability.

The e-shelter data center at Wienerberg was opened in June last year, and offers around 2,800 sqm of highly available DC space, in the first of three planned building stages. The building was especially designed and built for use as a data center. The requirements of the new standard DIN EN 50600 comprise measurement values for energy efficiency as well as availability and protection classes (e.g. fire protection, operating safety) and are oriented towards the recognised American standard ANSI/TIA-942-A-2012. The certification is valid for three years.

“The requirements on us as data center operators change as the innovations in the digital world”, says Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO of e-shelter. “Therefore, we must be able to react quickly and at the same time ensure regulated processes, operating safety and reliability at all times. The certificate confirms the high standard of the building and technical infrastructure of e-shelter data centers that we provide for our customers.“

“As a leading provider of Managed Services, we have a high level of responsibility for our customers’ data ,” explains Gerald Rehling, Head of Managed Service Atos Austria. “So we are all the more content with the positive certification, and it reinforces our decision for this partnership.” The European IT service provider currently operates 812 m² of DC space at e-shelter, and manages around 800 outsourcing customers throughout Austria.
