TOKYO, Japan — June 23, 2015 — NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications business within NTT (NYSE: NTT), and e-shelter, a leading European operator of data center services, and ABRY Partners, a private equity investment firm, jointly announced today that NTT Com acquired a 86.7% stake in e-shelter today. The acquisition elevates the NTT Com group to the no. 3 position for data center space in Europe, up from 19,500 square meters in four cities to 92,000 square meters in nine cities.
As the designer, builder and operator of high-availability data centers, e-shelter offers infrastructure based on the highest standards of physical security and operational reliability. The company, led by CEO Rupprecht Rittweger, was established in 2000. It operates over 70,000 sqm of server room space, 40,000 sqm of which at its main site in Frankfurt, making this Europe’s largest data center site. The company has additional sites in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich, as well as in Vienna, Austria and Zurich, Switzerland. Clients of e-shelter include providers of financial, telecom, IT and cloud services as well as governmental institutions.
Going forward, NTT Com will further expand its data centers to offer strengthened global seamless ICT solutions that meet the business needs of corporate customers on the European continent, where the demand for data centers continues to grow.
